R5 Productions to Open Live Music Venue?

Those of you who attend R5 Productions shows will be excited to know, the company’s founder, Sean Agnew has announced in a recent interview with Flying Kite, that he will be taking his company to the next level – opening his own venue which his company will be manage although it’s being financed by a third-party. The new Philadelphia music venue’s location is rumored to be somewhere around 41st and Locust and is rumored to be “opening soon.” Whenever it does in fact open, it will prove to me a major step-up for the independent promoter of punk, indie rock, hardcore, and underground hip-hop shows and breathe some fresh air into a struggling philadelphia live music scene which has seen a decrease in shows at Philadelphia’s legendary Electric Factory and one of the poorer seasons to date at The TLA on South Street.

It’s unclear to what extent or when the new R5 Venue will effect the live shows that Agnew has promoted at First Unitarian Church, Johnny Brenda’s, Starlight Ballroom, or throughout philly at other live music theatres, but it’s certain to cause a decrease in activity without Agnew’s presence.
